VGTU Career Fair: step towards a successful career
Students, lecturers, and respectable business people were rushing to Vilnius Gediminas Technical University (VGTU) on March 19th. They came here for the annual Career Fair, where the community of students and career professionals met to share their opinions, experiences, discuss the quality of studies, prepare students for a modern labor market and their career opportunities.
Representatives from over 70 companies engaged in different fields participated in the event. One of them was a group of companies, Penki Kontinentai, the general sponsor of the event. Specialists of Penki Kontinentai introduced the students to one of the oldest and largest IT companies in Lithuania, discussed daily tasks and challenges, internship and career opportunities, and answered the students’ questions. Experts working for the company shared their insights on IT’s future, the benefits of innovative technologies, and promising professions.
According to Anželika Daujotienė, Head of the Human Resources Department of the group of companies, young people who are embarking upon a career need motivation and clear objectives. “Young people are expected to show enthusiasm, willingness to learn, and curiosity. However, the flame in one’s eyes is not enough. People who know what they want, where they are headed, and who make every effort to achieve their goals successfully find their place in the labor market. Employers also value such qualities as the ability to adapt to quickly changing environments, diligence, and loyalty,” said A. Daujotienė.
Students who visited Penki Kontinentai learned more about internship and employment opportunities in programming, marketing, customer service, and other fields offered by the company. Experienced employees advised on career- and profession-related matters encouraged to look actively for ways to reveal one’s skills and apply one’s knowledge in practice.
The Career Fair was crowned with a festive evening and the closing ceremony, where businesses granted targeted scholarships to VGTU’s students of construction and architecture.
